Change is Possible

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety, and emotional struggles. It works by helping you recognize unhelpful beliefs, reframe your thinking, and adopt healthier mental habits. For example, if you often feel overwhelmed by perfectionism or self-doubt, CBT can help you uncover the underlying thought processes driving those feelings and replace them with more supportive, realistic perspectives.

In my practice, CBT is part of a holistic approach that blends cognitive and somatic therapies. While CBT focuses on the mind—shifting the way we think—somatic therapies focus on the body and the emotions stored within it. Sometimes healing involves going deep, working on attachment wounds or trauma stored in the nervous system. Other times, the work is more cognitive, where we need to challenge faulty thinking patterns or assumptions that keep us stuck. Both have an essential role in holistic healing.

By integrating CBT with body-based therapies, we can address both the surface-level thoughts and the deeper emotional wounds that drive them. This comprehensive approach allows us to treat the root cause of your struggles while also giving you practical tools to manage day-to-day stress and challenges. Together, we can help you create lasting change, so you can experience a life with more balance, clarity, and emotional freedom.

Hey, I’m Cate.

My approach to CBT Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that makes perfect sense for situations where unhelpful thoughts and beliefs are driving anxiety, stress, or perfectionism. It’s highly effective for identifying negative thought patterns, challenging them, and creating new, healthier ways of thinking and responding. For example, when clients feel stuck in self-criticism or overthinking, CBT provides concrete tools and strategies to help them break free from those cycles and regain a sense of control.

That said, I believe healing is most powerful when we address both the mind and body. While CBT focuses on shifting thought patterns, many emotional struggles are rooted in deeper attachment wounds or trauma stored in the nervous system. The majority of my clients benefit from a combination of CBT and more somatic, body-based therapies, like Internal Family Systems (IFS). This holistic approach allows us to address not just the surface-level thoughts but also the emotional blocks beneath them.

By integrating CBT and somatic therapies, we create a well-rounded healing process. Sometimes, we need the structure and logic of CBT to reframe harmful beliefs. Other times, we need to connect with the emotions stored in the body to fully heal. Together, this combination supports lasting, meaningful change—helping you feel more grounded, balanced, and connected in your daily life.

What to expect in CBT Therapy?

Uncovering and Understanding Your Thought Patterns

CBT therapy begins by identifying the negative or unhelpful thoughts that contribute to your anxiety, stress, or emotional struggles. These thoughts often operate automatically, like beliefs about needing to be perfect or fearing failure. Together, we’ll bring awareness to these patterns and explore how they influence your emotions and behaviors.

Challenging and Reframing Negative Beliefs

Once we’ve identified the underlying thoughts, we’ll work on reframing them into healthier, more supportive perspectives. This doesn’t mean ignoring challenges but learning to view them through a lens that empowers you rather than holds you back. For example, you’ll learn to shift from self-criticism to self-compassion, reducing the mental and emotional strain you experience.

Building Practical Skills for Everyday Life

CBT focuses on real-world applications, so you’ll develop tools to use outside of sessions. We may work on techniques like journaling, thought-stopping exercises, or mindfulness to help you break free from automatic negative thinking. Over time, these skills help you feel more in control, less overwhelmed, and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges.
