My Approach

Hey I’m Cate,

As a mom of two, I know how deeply transformative pregnancy and postpartum can be—both beautiful and overwhelming. The physical changes, hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, and the massive transition in identity can trigger anxiety in ways you never expected. I’ve been there, feeling the weight of trying to do everything right while navigating the uncertainty of new motherhood.

I believe anxiety during this time is a signal, not a problem to fix. It’s your body’s way of asking for attention and care. My approach blends cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help manage spiraling thoughts with somatic therapies that calm the nervous system and help you feel safe and grounded in your body again. Together, we’ll explore the root causes of your anxiety—whether they stem from the pressures of motherhood, past wounds, or generational patterns. My goal is to support you in finding relief, healing what’s beneath the surface, and stepping into this chapter of motherhood with confidence, connection, and self-compassion.

What Can Be Addressed in Pregnancy and Postpartum Therapy?

Pregnancy and postpartum therapy can help with a wide range of challenges, including:

  • If you’re constantly worrying or feeling on edge, therapy can help you learn tools to quiet racing thoughts, manage the mental load of motherhood, and feel more present and grounded. Whether it’s fear about your baby’s well-being or anxiety about parenting “the right way,” we’ll work together to bring more calm to your mind and body.

  • Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or even a lack of connection with your baby can feel isolating and scary. Therapy provides a safe space to work through these emotions, helping you rediscover joy, build confidence, and reconnect with both yourself and your baby.

  • Intrusive thoughts or compulsive behaviors can leave you feeling overwhelmed and ashamed, but you’re not alone. Therapy can help you identify and manage these patterns, reduce their intensity, and develop strategies to regain a sense of control and peace.

  • Fertility treatments can be emotionally and physically draining, and therapy can help you process the grief, hope, and stress that often come with this journey. Whether you’re navigating treatment or pregnancy after infertility, therapy offers a space to explore your feelings and find support.

  • A difficult or traumatic birth can leave emotional scars that impact how you bond with your baby and feel about yourself. Therapy can help you process these experiences, heal from the trauma, and rebuild trust in your body and its ability to care for your child.

  • Becoming a parent changes everything, including your sense of self. Therapy can help you navigate the loss of your pre-parenthood identity, redefine what balance looks like for you, and explore how to meet your needs while caring for your family.

  • Parenthood can add stress to even the strongest relationships. Therapy can help you and your partner improve communication, manage conflict, and work together as a team during this transformative time, fostering a deeper connection and mutual support.

What to Expect

A Safe Space to Be Honest About Motherhood

Pregnancy and postpartum therapy is a judgment-free space where you can be honest about how you’re really feeling. Whether it’s frustration, fear, guilt, or sadness, this is a place to let it all out without worrying about being judged or misunderstood. Motherhood is often painted as joyful and natural, but the truth is, it can also feel overwhelming, isolating, and exhausting. Therapy allows you to process those feelings, so you don’t have to carry them alone.

Practical Tools for Managing Stress and Anxiety

iTherapy isn’t just about talking—it’s about finding solutions that work for you. In pregnancy or postpartum therapy, you’ll learn practical tools to manage anxiety, reduce overwhelm, and feel more in control of your emotions. Whether you’re dealing with intrusive thoughts, struggling with your identity as a parent, or feeling disconnected from your partner or baby, we’ll work together to create strategies that bring more calm and balance into your day-to-day life.

Healing the Deeper Roots of Your Struggles

For many moms, pregnancy and postpartum bring up unexpected emotions and unresolved wounds from the past. In therapy, we’ll explore how your own upbringing, relationships, or past trauma may be influencing how you show up as a parent. By working through these deeper layers, you’ll not only heal old wounds but also strengthen your ability to connect with your baby, your partner, and yourself. This work helps you break generational patterns and parent in a way that aligns with your values.
